“When I think about how I came to Allegheny, it falls back on my father. He had a coworker who had gone to Allegheny. She was so kind to sit down with me at a small cafe in Waco, Texas, and have a 2+ hour conversation about her experience and her family’s experience with Allegheny and the Meadville community at large.

She spoke about how small and tight knit of a community it was, and that was just the kind of environment I was looking for. I had never been at a school for more than two years due to moving and other transitions between K-12, so I was really looking for a home in a community and that’s what she portrayed it as. That conversation got me here!”

“I found out about Allegheny through my guidance counselor. She recommended that I put 10 to 20 schools on my list of choices. At the time, I only had two, and my guidance counselor was not OK with that. She filled in a couple of other schools for me, Allegheny being one of them. It ended up being the first campus I ever visited.

I instantly fell in love with it. The area was very different from what I’m used to in Newark, NJ, which is more of an urban setting, and I kind of wanted to try something different. I went back that same week and told my guidance counselor, yep, I’m going to Allegheny. She was super happy with that!”

Spotlight On Your Impact

Hillary, Xun, Rutendo, and Mike

In April, Hillary Fenrich ’14, Xun Li ’09, Rutendo Mavunga ’24, and Mike Newman ’94 participated in a virtual session with accepted students who were still considering their college options. They shared thoughtful reflections in response to questions like, “What is your why? Why did you choose Allegheny?”, “What part of your Allegheny experience stands out most?”, and “How did Allegheny prepare you for life after graduation?” Some stand-out quotes include,
