Spotlight on Your Impact
Bonner Alumni Inspire Students with Fresh Perspectives
As the Alumni Representative for the Allegheny Bonner Program, Leslie Guadalupe Briseño ’25 sought meaningful ways for Bonner alumni to connect with current Bonner students. In November, she organized a virtual panel discussion for junior and senior Bonners, featuring five Bonner alumni: Rosa Diaz ’03, Pat DiFrancesco ’15, Amanda Hazer ’10, Xun Li ’09, and Shanelle Minta ’24. These alumni quickly accepted Leslie’s invitation to share insights about their time at Allegheny and how their Bonner experience shaped their paths.
When asked about the value of this experience, Briseño shared:
“Listening to the participants’ stories and their personal insights on navigating career paths was very helpful as I reflected on my own goals and the direction I want to take. This event created a space for students to hear the experiences of past students and be reassured that things will turn out okay.”
Participants encourage all alumni to get involved in inspiring students through career connections. Hazer reminds fellow alumni to remember how it felt to be a student, and notes, “Any reassurances or advice given goes a long way.” DiFrancesco echoes, “I think one of the most rewarding ways to stay connected with Allegheny after graduation is by engaging with current students. By mentoring students, offering internships, sharing your experiences, and offering guidance, you’re not only making a difference in their lives but also strengthening the Allegheny community.”
