Connect a Gator to a Career Opportunity
Discover how you can make a difference by connecting your workplace with Allegheny students.
Utilizing the Handshake Network
Alumni are encouraged to leverage the Handshake network to post opportunities specifically at Allegheny College through the Center for Career and Professional Development. All known alumni are granted a system label indicating their Allegheny College connection, which also allows their postings to automatically appear on the Gator2Gator platform.
Please review the sections below before proceeding with posting an internship or job. Additional helpful information is available in the Handshake Help Center.
To facilitate follow-up on posted opportunities, please contact our Center for Career and Professional Development team at career@allegheny.edu to identify the appropriate person or department responsible for recruiting interns and employees.
Create a Handshake Account
If you need to register for a new account:
- Visit the Handshake registration page and select the Employer account type. Complete the form and click “Sign Up”. After completing the next form, agree to the Employer Guidelines, Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy.
- Handshake will send a verification email to the email provided. Verify the account by clicking “Confirm Email” upon receiving it (check spam if you do not see it).
- If your company already exists in Handshake, a prompt will guide you to connect with your organization. You can also use a search bar to find your company, or click the “Create New Company” button.
- Locate “Allegheny College” and click the “+” to connect with us to Hire a Gator!
- Next, your connection will be reviewed by career center staff. Once reviewed, a confirmation email will be sent.
Existing Handshake Account Holders
If you have an existing account with Handshake:
Connect with us by clicking on “Schools” on the left-hand menu bar. Click the “Find Schools” tab on the upper right-hand side. Then type “Allegheny College” in the search bar to connect with us.
Creating an Internship
When developing an internship for an Allegheny student, consider that each opportunity should include:
- Compensation in the form of a salary, hourly wage, or stipend that is at the very least equivalent to the minimum wage per location. Please note that earning college credit for the internship is not a replacement for earning compensation.
- A professional learning experience with a real-world opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom. It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or replace the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.
- Learned skills and knowledge that are transferable to other employment settings.
- A defined beginning and end that is mutually agreed upon and consistent with institutional sponsor guidelines and schedules.
- A position description with clear responsibilities and required/desired qualifications.
- Clearly defined learning objectives/goals supportive of the student’s academic program goals and institutional requirements.
- Direct supervision by a professional(s) with relevant expertise and educational and/or professional experience who provides productive feedback, guidance, and the resources and equipment necessary to successfully complete the assignment.
Recruiting on Campus
We are deeply appreciative of our Allegheny alumni and community partners who connect with the Center for Career and Professional Development to bring job and internship opportunities directly — whether in person or virtually — to our students. Future Gator2Gator Live Career Fairs will be listed here as they are scheduled.
